The PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) audit report on the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) fiasco has lent greater credibility to claims that have long been reported but swept aside by the government – that serious shortcomings, irregularities and abuses have from the very beginning plagued the publicly-funded project. Among the facts confirmed by PwC is that PKFZ has been hobbled by inflation of costs, weaknesses in governance and management of the project, improper and poor decision-making, and conflict of interests by PKFZ and other officials. |

New Straits Times 2009/05/20 KUALA LUMPUR, Wed: Bilateral trade between Malaysia and Qatar was given a boost with the signing of a trade agreement between the two countries. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Khalifa Al-Thani witnessed the signing today Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Mustapa Mohamed signed for Malaysia while Qatar’s Minister of Trade for International Cooperation signed for his country. Apart from promoting and diversifying trade between the two countries, the objective of the agreement is also to establish a joint trade committee to facilitate consultation and cooperation in trade and investment related matters. Qatar was Malaysia’s eight largest trading partner in West Asia last year, with total trade amounting to RM1.699 million or 3.1 per cent of Malaysia’s total trade with the region |
